As Massage Therapy Grows Men Don't Get As Many - Why?

However men don’t go as often for massage as women do. AMTA (2001) say 18% of females said they went for a massage treatment. This is compared to only 13% of men saying they had done so. These figures for men didn’t improved much in 2017 when 21% of women and only 16% of the men surveyed said they had a massage in the previous year.

The lack of men getting what is a fabulous complementary treatment could be down to a number of reasons. One of these reasons might be the way men perceive massage as unmanly. This is a very outdated view that has no grounds at all. Getting a massage is just as manly as going to the gym.   • Firstly, book an appointment well in advance.
  • Secondly, have a shower before you set off.
  • Thirdly, turn up on time.
  • Fourthly, tell your massage therapist what you want.
  • Fifthly, tip as much as you feel you should.

  • Seventhly, stripping down to your underwear is normal practice but, you can be fully clothed or naked with some discussion beforehand, if you choose.

Make it clear to your therapist what you want from your massage. During your health consultation, before your treatment, this should become clear to all parties. Do not be embarrassed to say what aches and pains you have. Your therapist is a complementary health worker. They want to know what your problems are so they can address them. Basically, if you don’t tell me, I won’t be able to help you as much with your tension, aches and pains.

Do You Want a Male or Female Therapist?

Make your choice and be sure to tell us this. We only have male therapists. Why is this a moral question? Some people may not be happy having a man or a women touch them when they are nearly naked. Indeed some husbands or wives might not be happy having another man or woman touch their spouse all over their body. It is up to you and potentially your partner to make this choice and say so when booking your appointment. Here we only have male therapists.

How Much Clothing Do I Need to Take Off?

Here, we are happy for you to remove as much of your cloths as you are comfortable with. Other places may have different rules about this. People can remain fully clothed during a massage but, this will hinder your treatment, meaning you may not get the most out of it. If you wish, you can strip to your underwear. This is the way most people are treated. It gives access to all body parts required and gives you a good level of discretion. Your therapist will see only things that he needs to see.

Alternatively, you can with the agreement from your therapist (masseur), strip naked if you feel most comfortable this way. This is up to you and your massage therapist to discuss privately, between you before your treatment. It is up to you how you want to proceed, after all this is your personalised treament. All you have to do is tell us. Body parts that are not being worked on can remain covered with towels if you wish for warmth and to be even more dicreet. No matter how much clothing you choose to remove, your discretion is always 100% assured here. 

Where Do My Hands Go During My Treatment?

If it is a full body massage, your hands should stay on the massage table when you are face up, dangling down either side of the table when you are face down, or where ever your therapist (masseur) puts them. This is a relaxation treatment and if you start touching your masseuse, they may become uncomfortable. So please trust your therapist and allow them to so their job unhindered. It will be better for both of us.

What Happens If I Get an Erection?

Don’t worry, this is a healthy, normal, regular response for men. This reaction to relaxation can also happen to men when they awake in the morning after a relaxing sleep. Getting an erection is a perfectly normal human response to a good, relaxing massage. Therapists here are not concerned if it happens or if it doesn’t and neither should you be. It’s OK.

A professional, experienced therapist (masseuse) will have seen this reaction before. It can happen. It is nothing to worry about. Your erection will be covered by a towel. Naked Massage Treatments - Undraped Massage Therapy

You can also choose how much clothing you wish to wear while you are recieving your relaxing treatment. You can choose be fully clothed, you can also be naked and covered with blankets or, if you are comfortable with nudity, you can be naked and undraped (without any towel covers at all). It is up to you and we respect your choice and your privacy in doing so.

Clients can choose to be partially clothed, naked then covered with towels or completely naked during a massage treatment here. Your treatment here is done the way you choose. That being however you are most comfortable. You will be treated by a trained, experienced massage therapist, and they will be used to seeing parts of the body. So, please don’t be embarrassed to ask.

Undress as Much or as Little as You Wish

At relaxing massage, we believe that a your total comfort and complete privacy is very important. For Indian Head Massage you can choose remove your shirt but, this type of treatment can also be done through clothing. For massages that are dedicated to a specific area (like your back or your legs), you can stay partially clothed.

However, for full body massage, some level of undress is usual. For most people that means undressing down to their underwear, which is usually what people do. This level of undress means your therapist can access the body areas requiring treatment and can cover these areas with oil. Many people want to protect their privacy during a treatment. So, towels can be used to cover you. However it is you choose to have your treatment done we are happy to help. Just tell us and we will do it how you want to the best of our ability.

Being Naked for Your Relaxing Massage

You are welcome to be naked during a treatment here. When you arrive for your treatment, your therapist will show you somewhere private to disrobe, behind a privacy screen. He will say “If you could please undress down to your underwear as a minimum or naked. Whichever you are most comfortable with.“ This gives you the freedom of choice to be totally naked all during your treatment here, if you wish. If you do choose to be nude, towels can still be used to protect your modesty. Simply discuss your treatment with your therapist and it will be done the way you want. We aim to please.

Undraped Massage Treatment

Picture of woman dancing freely.Some people preferred an undraped massage. This is a naked, or partially clothed full body treatment without any towels. We can provide this service on request. Treatment here is in a warm, well insulted, completely private therapy room called the relaxation room. So, you should not be cold. If the temperature is not quite right for you, just tell your therapist so they can do something about it for you.

Undraped massage is considered by many to be the top form of massage, with good reason. It means you can concentrate wholly on what your therapist is doing for you. If you can imagine, towels being moved around your body can be considered a distraction. It also means your therapist does not have to deal with moving the towels. So, they can concentrate more on do you some good. For many people the freedom of being naked, with no towels and still being warm, is exactly what they want. People say they get more out of an undraped treatment. The choice is yours.

No Sorry – We Don’t Do Naturist Massage

We do not provide this service. Naturist massage treatments are when you and your therapist are both naked. You may disrobe in private and your therapist may disrobe separately. Both of you are naked throughout your treatment. There are many naturist resorts that will provide you with this service. We however do not. Sorry.

  1. To some extent you are a private person. You don’t want everyone to know everything about your business do you? What happens during a discreet Relaxing Massage is private. No one else will ever know but you and your therapist.
  2. Imagine that you are stressed and are holding onto that stress as tension in your muscles. Whnere you are tense and how much tension you are holding on to will be completely private information between you and your therapist. Others don’t need to know anything about this.
  3. You booked last week and at last you are going to get your long-awaited massage. Would you prefer the entrance to be on a busy public street where everyone can see you go in or on a quiet road? The Relaxation Room is on a quiet street and we have a drive for you to pull into. If you dont want to be seen coming in you wont be.
  4. Now, just imagine you are going to disrobe down to your underwear, as you would when trying on some new clothes. Do you want that to be in public or would you prefer it to be in a discreet environment? There are privacy screens to disrobe behind or your therapist can wait outside the troom until you are ready. Undressing is very discreet here.
  5. Next, imagine you are going to lay down as above. Then have someone manipulate your skin and underlying tissues to help you relax. Should everyone know this and see it or should it just be between you and your therapist?
  6. As your therapist relaxes you, you may inadvertently comment positively or sigh in pleasure due to that totally relaxing feeling as it happens. Only your therapist will recognise this when it happens here, no one else will ever know.
  7. You may be made of a bit more than skin and bone. What ever size you are is OK we do not judge you here. This is kept private it is not discussed with anyone else.
  8. Your other half might not like the idea of you being touched and soothed all over by another person. That’s OK too, we don’t tell anyone.
